Showboating

The Player of the Year nominations came out the other day and there were no surprises who the press immediately thought was the favourite. According to the hacks, it's a two horse race between Cristiano Ronaldo and Didier Drogba.

But where do they feature on the FFA player of the year stats?

5th and 7th.

Top spot goes to Rooney with 1978 points so far, followed by crocked genius (and columnist gold) Thierry Henry (1619), with Lampard (1548) and Gerrard (1535) filling the places above the Portugese winger (1514).

Drogba (1386) is sandwiched between his team-mates Terry (1473) and Shevchenko (1316), with Ashley Cole (1298) and Peter Crouch (1231) completing the top ten.

For my money I think Ronaldo will win it, but my player of the year would be Drogba. He's kept Chelsea in the title race despite them putting in a lot of mediocre performances. Lamps has scored plenty of goals sure, but many of Drogba's goals seem to be those vital late winners or game turners, especially in Europe.

All to play for

Trouble off the pitch has over shadowed action on the pitch over the last few days. This time of year focuses more on managers than individual players as pressure grows for those final places - be they Champions League spots or that magical 17th position that Charlton seem to be making themselves comfortable in. But with a month to go we've already got a quarter of the League with nothing realistic to play for (even if 7th becomes available for a UEFA spot)

It could be a time to look at your squad and think about who the key players are going to be in the run in. Everton play a crucial role - not only are they chasing down Arsenal they're also they also face the two title contenders. So to give you something to think about we've added a couple of their young stars to the roster.

So for Transfer Tuesday in come James Vaughan and Joleon Lescott while in a bit of spring cleaning we bid farewell to Andy Cole and Francis Jeffers who both went out on loan a while back.

Not so squeaky bum time

The return of Champions League action sees the points heaping on the all the usual suspects. Stevie G's amassed a huge haul over the last few days resulting in him inevitably leaving my portfolio tomorrow, at least it'll free up some funds.

Congratulations to quizking who staved off a spirit challenge for backrubslut to win March's agent of the month - his fifth AotM award of the season.

There's no real doubt that he's going to hang on now until season's end. Though the season will end the game will go on. We're going to be testing out a few rule changes for next season over the summer so it'll be a lot more competitive next time around.
